Travel Items Checklist
Don’t Forget
Travelling will be a great deal more comfortable and enjoyable if you take
the necessities with you. In addition to the most important essentials, there are
the items that will make your life a lot easier (how many times have you said “now
if only I’d brought …..”). That little something you normally take for granted back
home may not be available at your travel destination or it may be stupendously expensive,
so stock up before you go.
Essential Items
Passport with relevant visas and a photocopy of your passport (in case of
loss). Make sure that you keep the copies separate from your originals.
Money, traveller's cheques, credit cards
Insurance papers
Itinerary with contact numbers for accommodation, trains and buses - in case
you are delayed, lost or if you have to change your plans unexpectedly.
Emergency telephone numbers (police, ambulance and fire) for the places you’ll
be visiting.
Contact numbers for lost traveller's cheques and credit cards.
Vaccination certificates if you are going to countries where they are required.
The Not So Obvious Items
(The I-Wish-I'd-Brought-It-With-Me Things)
Tissue paper - take a plentiful supply.
Torch/flashlight - especially if you're going to a place without 24 hour electricity
or where power failures are common. Along the same vein, take an extra set of batteries
with you.
Swiss army knife - even if you’re not doing the wilderness stint as they are
great for cutting, opening bottles and tins.
Ziplock bags (various sizes) - to keep things dry and airtight. Also great
for keeping insects out.
Hand disinfectant - indispensable where the water supply is non-existent,
erratic or unclean.
Pareu/sarong - versatile piece of fabric that can go from a flowing long skirt
where modesty calls to a little halter dress for the beach.
Sewing kit - for quick repairs.
